Arriving by train for Mongolia I decided to stop in Datong in order to have a soft transition before the main city of Beijing. Visiting the famous Buddha caves like me she was the first Chinese girl I met. We took this portrait at the entrance of one of the caves.

This site is very impressive but I was disappointed by the fact they build an horribly ugly parking just down. I will have opportunity to suffer this Chinese habit later on other touristic sites.
The hanging monastery (Xuánkong Sì) was build such a way in order to avoid the 50 meters water rise in this canyon. It lasts from the VII century.

Taihuan temple is the main attraction of the Wutai Shan, one of the five chinese buddhist Holy Mountains. I spent a lot of time looking at the monks turning in discussing around the giant Stupa.
