With the crew change at Marquette, IA out of the way, Canadian Pacific’s Business Train squeezes through McGregor, IA on its run to Kansas City, MO and Knoche Yard. Once part of the Milwaukee Road’s route from River Junction (La Crescent, MN) to Kansas City, MO and the joint Kansas City Southern-Milwaukee Road Knoche Yard. Still a joint yard but with KCS and CP, Knoche Yard is the destination for this run of CP’s Business Train. Supposedly to rendezvous with Kansas City Southern’s Business train.

Following the curves of Canadian Pacific’s River Subdivision, CP’s St. Paul, MN to La Crosse, WI local heads across the mouth of Dutchman Coulee near Maple Springs, MN. On its daily run east, the train (J20) is lead by one of two former Milwaukee Road GP40s currently on CP’s roster. Now considered GP40-3, the sight of something other than a GP20C-ECO on the train is a welcome sight.

Grand Trunk 5931 kicks up some fresh powder as it guides Canadian National local L584 into the small map dot of Clifford, WI. Headed west on its tri-weekly run to Prentice, the Bradley based local will set out a few storage cars in the siding at Brantwood before heading to the sawmill at Prentice. The line, the Bradley Subdivision, is in its last week of CN control, come Saturday (January 29th), WATCO’s Fox Valley & Lake Superior Rail System will assume ownership and operation of this former Soo Line route.

A pair of grain elevators in Scranton dot the horizon as a BNSF Northtown to Laurel, MT freight works up towards Bowman along the former Milwaukee Road in Southwest North Dakota. The train has just had a recrew and a meet with an eastbound at Buffalo Springs.

Having originated at the Edwards Generating Station just south of Peoria, IL, BNSF train E PEBBTM0 04A rolls timetable west on the Orin Subdivision. The empty coal train is headed to Arch Coal’s Black Thunder Mine for another load of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin coal.
