Dit stuk hout is miljoenen jaren oud. Doordat het bedekt is geweest met lava kon er geen zuurstof bij en is het niet weggerot, zoals meestal gebeurt met hout.
Door werking van mineralen uit de grond komen er verschillende kleuren en patronen in het hout.

This piece of wood hardly looks like wood, because it is millions of years old. It is found in India, where pieces forest was covered with lava. No oxygen could reach it and so it did not rot away, as usually happens with wood.
Due to the action of minerals from the ground, different colors and patterns appear in the wood. `When they find this they cut slices from the wood and sand it smooth. In the Netherlands there is the store Xylea, where you can buy several pieces of this petrified wood.
