This past couple of weeks I have been exploring Vancouver Island. The first week photographer Thomas Dawson and I checked out a few "secret spots" that turned out to have some wonderful photographic potential. The canyon depicted in this image is one of many Karst formations dotted about the island, usually found in the form of caves. The pitted rock patterns to the right are the result of fast moving water wearing away at the rock for thousands of years.

The problem that I have with self portraits is that I really don't think that I am a good subject. Images such as this always seem a little contrived and, well, setup. Man and woman in the landscape seem to be the flavour of the day these days in the photographic community. Was a very cool canyon to explore though.

Another image from my recent adventure on Vancouver Island. Just up from this small cascade Thomas Dawson and I were thwarted by another small waterfall that blocked our way. Personally I wasn't up for going for a swim without a wetsuit, perhaps next time. The canyon at this point was quite remarkable with overhanging cliffs, moss and ferns rising all around, neat place. In this image you can get a glimpse of the canyon beyond.

Fantastic rock textures found in one of the Karst canyons found on Vancouver Island. I wanted to emphasize the side wall so I got nice and close with my widest lens, a 14-24mm set at 14mm.
