Kirkjufell is probably the most photographed spot in Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is also well known probably of the famous TV series GOT. At the time we were there every thing was frozen, but in some area it started to thaw, when walking on the ice, it started to crack.

It was a long day and cold day After shooting sunset, we had to find a place to stay for the night. There was a camping ground a few miles away in Grundarfjordur, so I drove there but it’s closed in Winter. We drove around the small town looking for something open so we can eat or buy food but everything is closed after 7pm…so we stopped in a supermarket parking lot and ate whatever we can find in our van. Time to time we would see people walking and stared at us strangely, we all decided to go back to Kirkjufellfoss parking lot and may be spent the night there. To our surprise there were a few cars there already, so we decided to just spend the night there, if we get a ticket, we’ll get a ticket :D

By 11pm we decided to call the night and Nate and I went outside. I was putting all the camera bags in the front seat to make room for the night so we can go to sleep. Nate went to the back of the van to brush his teeth and suddenly I hear noise from Nate with his toothbrush in his mouth like he was choking or something….I look back and saw behind him the green light dancing in the sky…I just scream at the other guys in the van, “Get out, get your camera bag!!!” Whatever camera bags I already put in the front seat, I grabbed them and throw on the ground until I grabbed mine and ran to the spot to shoot…I never though I could run a 800m that fast :D Once I get there and setup the tripod I realized that I left my camera charging in the car…another dash back and forth to the van….what a night to witness for the first time the light dancing in the sky. I was able to put in action the new feature of the E-M1 Mark III, #StarryNightAutoFocus, point the camera to the sky, press a button, all the stars are pin sharp of the screen…great thing for my friends that night was the Super Moon so it looks almost like day time and they can focus on the far away mountain. This was an unforgettable night we all had, we have stories to talk about for many years to come.
