I'm going to be a grandmother (hopefully)! Discovered a clutch of over twenty eggs from my White-lipped snails Cepaea hortensis, laid on a soft bed of moss. I had already photographed the entire clutch - with parents in attendance of course, when the MM theme was announced. So with great care and delicacy, using a toothpick and feather, I managed to separate four of the eggs from the rest of the clutch - each egg is about 2mm long. This was shot as a focus stack using my Raynox DCR-250 mounted on the front of my macro lens.

For Macro Mondays theme 'Four'.

I'm doing my best to tend to the eggs (no doubt taking more care than the parents), so in another 7-10 days I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will hatch - I'll have a nice piece of hosta waiting for them!

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph. But I am concerned that one of my White-lipped snails has now withdrawn deeply into its shell - presumably this is the one responsible for laying all those eggs, which seems incredible given the number of eggs and the tiny body of the snail. Hopefully it is just having a well-earned rest after all the effort and will soon be crawling about again.

A little whimsical surrealism for Looking Close on Friday theme 'Clothes Pegs' - a most fiddly set-up!

I found these tiny wooden clothes pegs in a toy store a few weeks ago, and figured at some point there would be the opportunity to use them for a photograph. The sky is one of my own shots added in as a background and the birds are Golden eagles that I photographed separately in the north of Skye.

Some might say I have far too much time on my hands...

Baby Brian does his best Kate Winslet imitation in her role as Rose in that iconic scene from the 1997 film Titanic. For those of you too young to remember (or were born on another planet), My Heart Will Go On was the theme tune for the film, sung by Celine Dion. My apologies if you now get an earworm...

For Macro Mondays theme 'Paper'.

A small piece of white paper was rolled to resemble the prow of a ship and set up in front of a piece of black paper and positioned so the snail would be back-lit by strong sunshine. Baby Brian is very tiny (a larger snail would have weighed the paper down) - his young body is very translucent, allowing the sunlight to glow through.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
