Another spontaneous upload of an old(er) picture, one that, hadn't I picked it for Window Wednesday today, would have probably gone back to another months- or even year-long slumber on my harddrive. So up it goes, before I get second thoughts about it (which happens all too often with too many images).

A color key / selective colour experiment which I don't do all too often; in fact, regarding uploads to Flickr, I think it's a first, but I have a few other images in the making with that processing technique. There's so much going on here with the light and the shadows – which add so many extra patterns to what is in that place anyway – that I thought it might help to structure the image if I left the red chairs red, those on the folding-screen included, because I thought that that's an extra layer of real vs. painted in combination with the layer of black and white vs. colour. I'm not sure if it really works as an image, but I'm showing it to you anyways, because otherwise... (see the first sentence of my description).

I had started to process it with selective colour months ago, so that idea wasn't one I got today, but the inclusion of the drawn chairs on the folding-screen was a new idea I got just today (and not all chairs there had been red, so I had to actually paint a few of them to make my idea work properly) when I re-processed the image in DXO PhotoLab, Lightroom and PS. Photo taken back in 2018 with the fabulous LX100 at the Königliche Gartenakademie (a beautiful garden centre nearby the Botanical Garden). This is one of the repurposed greenhouses, and greenhouses practically consist of nothing but windows, so I thought it would be perfect for Window Wednesday.

You don't see images processed in monochrome on my Flickr stream all too often. But here I thought it looked best. The thingy you see here is a playground carousel, photographed at the Britzer Garten. I'd seized the short moment when the carousel was not in use ;) Since the carousel's benches were painted in vivid red, I'd toyed with the idea to go for a colour-key-style processing at first, but in the end I liked the pure b&w look better, because the benches didn't really make sense to me as that special element that should be highlighted with the use of colour.

Converted to monochrome in Silver Efex where I used the preset "Film Noir 2" as starting point. I've still tweaked it here or there, because that filter creates a very contrasty, kind of harsh "silhouette" look with really deep blacks and almost completely blown-out whites, and I thought it looked nicer with more textures left in the image.

Viele Bilder in kräftigem, kontrastreichem Schwarzweiß gibt es in meinem Flickr-Stream nicht, aber hier sah SW einfach am besten aus. Ich hatte noch überlegt, etwas Farbe im Bild zu belassen, weil die geschwungenen Holzbänke dieses interaktiven Spielgeräts in leuchtendem Rot lackiert waren, aber in reinem SW wirkte das Bild doch am besten. Entwickelt in Silver Efex, wo ich das Preset "Film Noir 2" als Ausgangspunkt genommen und dann noch ein wenig angepasst habe, weil mir der doch sehr spezielle, Silhouetten-artige Look dieses Filters (mit tiefen Schwarztönen und fast völlig ausgefressenem Weiß) ein wenig zu extrem war.

Bei dieser Parkmöblierung handelt es sich um ein sogenanntes Sitzkarussell (sitzt man bei einem Karussell nicht eigentlich immer auf irgendetwas? Auf Holzpferdchen, Polizeimotorrädern, einem an langen Ketten befestigten Stuhl?); wenn man, am besten mit vereinten Kräften, an dem glänzenden Tisch-Rad-Dings in der Mitte dreht, fängt auch das Karussel an, sich zu drehen. Kürzlich fotografiert im Britzer Garten in dem kurzen Moment, als das Gerät mal nicht von Kindern umlagert war ;)

Walk with 3-day-beard / 3-tage-bart (thank you for organising this!), bananahh, and magritknapp at the Olympic Village of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. It's not a typical lost place, as one can't explore it by oneself. There are short guided tours, and much of the area has been sold to investors already (and many buidings are destroyed). Not the gym, however. As our nice and well-informed guide told us, we could still buy it, if we were interested in an old, decayed gym ;-)

The Olympic Village, located 18 kilometres west of Berlin, was designed by Walter and Werner March and built between 1934 and 1936. Even though the Olympic Village was officially labelled "Village of Peace" by the NS authorities, it was designed as barracks for the Wehrmacht from the very start. The building which housed the refectory and kitchens ("40 refectories / kitchens for 40 nations"), for instance, was designed as a hospital and was rebuilt for this originally planned purpose right after the ending of the '36 Summer Olympics.

Processed mostly in Aurora HDR. I wish I had brought a tripod (stupid!), because epecially here at the gym bracketing would have been very useful. Especially the shadows appear rather grainy after brightening them in LR.

Das Olympische Dorf von 1936 kann man nicht auf eigene Faust erkunden. Ein Teil des Geländes ist bereits verkauft, es sollen dort Wohnhäuser entstehen. Viele Gebäude existieren auch nicht mehr. Die Turnhalle, in der dieses Foto entstanden ist, steht aber noch zum Verkauf.

Das Olympische Dorf wurde von Walter und Werner March entworfen und zwischen 1934 und '36 erbaut. Entgegen der offiziellen NS-Bezeichnung "Dorf des Friedens" wurde es von Anfang an als Kaserne für die Wehrmacht konzipiert und auch gebaut. Das nicht mehr zugängliche Gebäude, das Küchen und Speisesäle beherbergte ("40 Küchen für 40 Nationen") war z.B. als Krankenhaus geplant und wurde gleich nach dem Ende der Sommerspiele entsprechend umgebaut.

Ich hatte dummerweise kein Stativ mit. Hier in der Turnhalle hätte sich sicher eine Belichtungsreihe gut gemacht, so sind insbesondere die Schatten, die ich nachträglich in LR aufgehellt habe, ziemlich verrauscht. Ansonsten habe ich das Foto überwiegend in Aurora HDR entwickelt.

Same procedure as last week... I wasn't really happy with any of my images, and took several more (of the same subject) today, but in the end I decided to stick to an image taken last night. It's strange sometimes, isn't it? So here we go, circles, or rather holes of a reduction sieve (?) that came with my espresso maker. Each of the holes has a diameter of 1 mm / 0,03 inches. I wanted a very narrow focal plane and everything else as bokeh, and in that I guess I've succeeded – somehow. Well, I hope you like the image anyway, I've looked at it too many times yesterday and today, so I can't see the forest for the trees (or the coffee for the holes) :)

It's a single image illuminated with one LED lamp (equipped with the blue tealight holder), and backlight coming from another LED lamp (equipped with the yellow plastic bottle cap) on which I had also placed the sieve. Processed in DXO and Color Efex where I'd slightly tweaked the colours by adding some warmth with the Reflector Efex Gold filter.

Or rather on a crystal vase behind my living room curtain, illuminated by the strong afternoon sun ;-). The cat is a Schleich figurine, 6,5 cm (2,55906 inches) from tail to nose.
I have another one, two very famous silhouettes ;-), from behind that curtain which I will upload tonight, they exceeded the 3 inches rule by a pinch (8 cm / 3,14961 inches wide).

Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach - oder besser auf einer Kristallvase auf meinem Fensterbrett. Vorhang zu, Nachmittagssonne drauf, Silhouette der Schleich-Katze fertig ;-)
Ich habe noch eins "hinterm Vorhang", zwei sehr bekannte Silhouetten, die die 3-Inch-Regel knapp überschritten haben. Die beiden kommen heute abend ;-)
