Taken last night for the Smile on Saturday theme "Flora in Monotone". This resilient little flower still blooms on my balcony, even though it's almost December and it's also getting colder now, with night temperatures approaching 0 °C, and day temperatures not much higher. About two weeks ago, when I actually wanted to photograph a colourful sunset from my balcony, I noticed that the illuminated windows in the house across the street would make a very interesting-looking bokeh background for the yellow flower. Since then I've taken numerous images of this humble little beauty (and her sister), handheld and at higher ISO first (and all of them blurry), then with a tripod crammed in between the balcony table (well, yes, I could move it away) and the balcony parapet, still a fairly shaky affair (and last night it had also been windy); I'd taken the first images with the Lumix LX100, then the next ones with my Oly (with different lenses – this most recent image was taken with the obvious choice, the 60mm macro lens), and I will also still try to get a few nice shots with the Ricoh. When you can't get out to shoot, you've got to find something around your home to fulfill the photoghraphic yearning ;) So you'll see more of this balcony beauty in the future.

Processed in DXO PhotoLab 4, where I've also applied two film simulations from the DXO FilmPack, first the Fuji Reala 100, then the DXO Cross Processed simulation of a Fuji Superior 200 film, because the latter adds a beautiful turquoise-and-hints-of-blue monotone look to any image. I've then further tweaked a few settings in Viveza (Brightness at +7, Contrast at -3) and in Color Efex (preset "Foliage Bump"), and finally, in ON1, added a Glow filter ("Diffuse Glow") and an HDR filter ("Subtle").

Btw could somebody help me with the ID? I'm guessing buttercup, but I'm not quite sure; it's a very sturdy flower with yellow blossoms and lots of herbaceous (you could also call it "weedy") looking green leaves. Thank you :)

Für das HSoS-Thema "Flora in Monotone". Gestern Abend auf meinem Balkon fotografiert. Das robuste (eigentlich gelbe) Blümchen hält sich auch bei nun dem Nullpunkt entgegensinkenden Temperaturen und einem unangenehmen Wind tapfer (und könnte mir evtl. jemand bei der Bestimmung aushelfen? Wie gesagt, das Blümchen ist gelb und hat viele, recht [un-]krautig aussehende grüne Blätter; ich tippe auf Hahnenfuß, bin mir aber nicht sicher; Danke schon einmal!).

Seit zwei Wochen fotografiere ich diese unscheinbare Balkonschönheit und auch seine ebenso hübsche Schwester immer mal wieder zur blauen Stunde (und gestern Abend war es sogar bereits dunkel). Eigentlich hatte ich seinerzeit bloß einen besonders schönen Sonnenuntergang vom Balkon fotografiert, bei der Gelegenheit aber entdeckt, dass die erleuchteten Fenster im Haus gegenüber einen schönen Bokeh-Hintergrund für's Blümchen abgeben könnten.

Die ersten Fotos entstanden aus der Hand und bei höherem ISO (alle verwackelt), jetzt nehme ich immer das Stativ, was aber trotzdem eine wackelige Angelegenheit ist, weil ich es immer zwischen Balkonbrüstung und Balkontisch quetschen muss (und ja, den Tisch könnte man auch wegschieben), aber ich habe jetzt schon einige recht hübsche Bilder dieser bescheidenen Balkonschönheit gemacht, mal mit der Lumix LX100, dann mit der Oly und verschiedenen Objektiven (dieses Bild habe ich mit der naheliegenden Objektivwahl, dem 60mm Makro, gemacht - nicht 100%ig scharf, es war gestern ziemlich windig), demnächst versuche ich es auch mal mit der Ricoh. Wenn man schon nur selten zu Fotospaziergängen raus kann, muss man sich seine Motive eben in der Nähe suchen und mit unterschiedlichem fotografischen Werkzeug für die nötige Abwechlsung sorgen ;)

Entwickelt in DXO PhotoLab 4. Nach regulären Entwicklungsanpassungen wie ClearView, Smart Lightning, Objektivschärfe und anschließendem Entrauschen in DeepPrime habe ich noch zwei Presets aus dem DXO FilmPack angewendet, zuerst eine Fuji-Reala-100-Simulation, dann eine "DXO Cross entwickelter Film" Simulation eines Fuji Superia 200, der jedes Bild in sehr angenehmes Türkis-Blau taucht. Anschließend noch kleine Anpassungen in Viveza (Helligkeit +7, Kontrast -3) und Color Efex (Preset "Foliage Bump"), dann noch etwas Leuchten ("Diffuse") und dezentes ("Subtle") HDR in ON1.

Smile on Saturday: #BlueForYouME

When I saw all the blue heart emojis in the comments on some photos in the Smile on Saturday group today, I had a last minute idea for the "Blue For You - ME 2019" theme on this special day :-) It certainly is a lovely coincidence that it's not only M for M&Ms, but also M for Maria as well :-)

So here's a big thank you for the "blue heart inspiration", dear group members, and today also especially to Maria Godfrida for making this group such a creative and friendly place and for all the work she puts into it every week.

Als ich heute die vielen blauen Herz-Emojis in einigen Kommentaren zu Fotos in der Smile-on-Saturday-Gruppe gesehen habe, kam mir die (Last-Minute-)Idee, für das "Blue-for-You"-Thema ein M&M-Herz zu legen und in Wasser aufzulösen. Das Thema ist ja ein ganz spezielles zum heutigen (11.05.) Internationalen Tag der Fibromyalgie. Danke also an die Gruppenmitglieder für die Inspiration zum Foto. Und natürlich an Maria Godfrida, die diese Gruppe zu so einem kreativen und angenehmen Ort gemacht hat und jede Woche so viel Arbeit hineinsteckt [und da passt es doch ganz gut, dass die M&Ms mit einem "M" - heute mal für Maria - bedruckt sind ;-)].

Smile on Saturday: #WishUponAStar

Sabine light-painting an orb in front of the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) while I was holding the shutter buttons of our cameras pressed. Or rather that of Sabine's camera. I had stupidely interrupted my long exposure, because I had thought the image would get too dark (in Live Bulb or Live Time mode you can watch the exposure on the Oly's screen). That's why I only got half an orb ;-) I am aware that this is, technically, not a good capture at all, but I like the "photowalk in action" atmosphere, and of course I was really delighted to find the Big Dipper in the night sky over Berlin when I developed the image. I had not noticed it when I took the shot, because I only had eyes for Sabine making the orb (I had never seen orb painting before). There was a nice couple stopping by to watch Sabine making the orb, we had a nice little chat with them.

Orberei unter dem Großen Wagen

Sabine.R beim Orb-Painting, im Hintergrund die Alte Nationalgalerie am Lustgarten, über uns der Große Wagen, während ich die Auslöser unserer Kameras gedrückt hielt - oder, besser gesagt, durchgängig nur den von Sabines Kamera. Ich hatte meine Belichtung dummerweise vorzeitig unterbrochen, weil ich dachte, dass das Foto eh viel zu dunkel werden würde, bei den Olys kann man die Belichtung ja am Display beobachten, wenn man den Live-Time- oder Live-Bulb-Modus eingestellt hat. So hatte ich als Resultat nur den halben Orb ;-) Aber es war auch mein allererstes Mal mit Orbs und Lightpainting gewesen. Technisch kein gutes Foto, das ist mir bewusst, aber ich mag die Atmosphäre eines Fotowalks "in Aktion" und außerdem war ich später beim Entwickeln angenehm überrascht, plötzlich den Großen Wagen am Nachthimmel über Berlin zu entdecken. Bei der Aufnahme hatte ich nämlich nur Augen für Sabines Lightpainting-Aktion gehabt (ich hatte auch überhaupt keine Vorstellung davon gehabt, wie so ein Orb tatsächlich entsteht). Ein Pärchen, das die Aktion bemerkte, kam auch vorbei und stellte uns interessiert ein paar Fragen ;-)

OK, some of you might prefer "Don't Marry Be Happy", but... ;-) I myself have no experience with being married whatsoever, so I can't really say what I'd prefer ;-)

Fun upload for the weekend, also for Smile on Saturday's theme "(K)NOT SO BAD!", Sliders Sunday, and 2DWFs "A New Beginning". I hope it qualifies for HSOS, there is a knot, albeit a rather small one. But I think it's an important one: the one that ties the tins - which are supposed to bring good luck and happiness to the couple - to the bride's car. Please forgive the sugary white vignette, I tried to get rid of as many other cars as possible, and I also thought a little kitsch would be OK ;-) This was taken at the parking lot of my favourite garden centre that is much more than a garden centre, the "Königliche Gartenakademie", which is very popular for family celebrations as well. By the way, the German nickname for Citroën's iconic 2CV/3CV car line-up is "Ente" (= duck) ;-)

Smile on Saturday: Egg-cellent

Eggsteroid DE-1616612 approaches the bright central star Beta Gallus of the Gallus system in the constellation of the giant hen. Soon DE-1616612 will have reached its closest distance to Beta Gallus. It is then that Beta Gallus' bright light will reveal what lies hidden beneath DE-1616612's bumpy shell. Hard-boiled? Soft-boiled? Raw? And will it bring us any closer to answering the eternal question of what came first? Chicken or the egg?

Not a new capture, but from last November, when I bought a couple of eggs with strangely bumpy shells. Needless to say that I wanted to capture one, and I decided to wait with uploading it until this year's Easter. I have never seen eggs with a shell like this afterwards (or before).

Eisteroid DE1616612 nähert sich Beta Gallus, dem hell leuchtenden Zentralgestirn des Gallus-Systems im Sternbild der Großen Henne. Sobald DE1616612 den Punkt der größten Annäherung an Beta Gallus erreicht hat, werden wir wissen, was sich unter seiner zerbeulten Schale verbirgt. Hart- oder weichgekocht? Roh? Aber bringt uns das der Lösung der ewigen Frage näher, was zuerst da war, die Henne oder das Ei?

Ein Foto vom letzten November, als ich Eier mit einer seltsam zerbeulten Schale gekauft hatte. Was ich natürlich fotografieren musste. Ich beschloss, das Foto dann aber erst um Ostern dieses Jahr herum hochzuladen. Da kommt das heutige "Egg-cellent"-Thema wie gerufen ;-)
