(Why Don't You Use It)

Macro Mondays: #PlugsAndJacks

Size of the frame: 5 x 5 cm / 1,9 x 1,9 inches

Old, by now unused telephone plug hidden behind the door. Remember those days when only one device could be connected to the internet ("Are you done by now? - I need to get online, hurry up!"), and we used 56k dial-up modems (doooo-di-do-do-di-trrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-I-ooooouuuuuuuuuuuu-dum-di-dum-di-prrrrrrrrrrboooorrrrrrrrrinnng)? Another last minute "idea" and quick capture taken on Sunday evening. Again I preferred to enjoy the wonderful spring sunshine and go outside to take captures of flowers, trees, nature, some more flowers... Well, "idea"... first I realised that I got the theme all wrong (I thought that everything that is an electrical contact is allowed, and photographed those pins on my battery grip). Then thought I might skip. OK, just for the sake of Macro Mondays and as not to skip... sigh. And yes, that frame again. Oh, and, Pixelated Sky, did I mention the dust, yet ;-) ?

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone! Aaaand: Happy 25th Birthday, World Wide Web :-)

Soundtrack, wenn Ihr mögt: The Undertones, "You've Got My Number (Why don't You Use It): STRG / CTRL und www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPztb3ccaX0

Macro Monday: #Condiment
7DWF, Monday: Anything Goes Theme
Size: 7,5 x 7,5 cm / 3 x 3 inches

Boring. I know. Wholegrain bread thinly spread with Mayo and garnished with Sriracha hot sauce. It was yesterday afternoon when I realised that the photo would not work the way I had imagined it. I wanted to use homemade guacamole as spread, and then write in neat and beautifully formed letters "Hot Stuff" across it (with the Sriracha bottle as it brings its own nozzle). Wait a minute... neat? Beautifully formed? Given the fact that neat handwriting never was my greatest strength in primary school I should have probably abstained from the idea in the first place. But well, I needed a photo, and I was committed to this one idea - do you know that feeling? To make it work, first of all I abandoned the "Stuff" as it always turned out too big for something the size of 5 x 5 cm or even 7,5 x 7,5 cm (not to mention the exclamation mark...). Too big for my "neat" handwriting and the size of the Sriracha bottle's nozzle, that is. Next thing I abandoned the "neat and beautifully formed" handwriting, and decicded to use print letters. Or something like that. Had a few dry runs just on a plate, then tried with guacamole. but that was too soft. So in the end settled for mayo as spread, and the biggest size possibe, and decided to give it one more try as I didn't want to waste another slice of bread. Which is what you can see here. Sigh. Long text, too, I sincerely apologize ;-)

A Happy, Spicy Macro Monday, Everyone!

A Happy Valentine's Day Everyone ;-)))

7DWF – Wednesdays: Macro or Close-up

Lady Crisp of the Grand Potato (please see first comment) has finally met her soulmate, and they are celebrating their new found love on Photato Beach ;-)

I thought that these sprouted beauties, while not edible anymore, just looked like seals - or, at least Lady Crisp - like walruses. Hence the beach setting ;-) Btw, I didn't "paint" the faces, I just enhanced what was already there with a little "dodge and burn".

I hope that I can catch up with your new photos and comment on them during the next days / the weekend, I won't be able to write, comment or view much today, because it's a very busy (and long) workday.

Thank you very much for taking the time to view and comment. See you soon! Have a wonderful day, dear Flickr friends ;-)

Destination Moon

Tintin's rocket - J, J, & J style: Do you remember John, Jim and James (please see first comment or the album)? This is a prequel to their adventures with the mighty Dimension Skipper®. John somehow got hold of the construction plans of the test rocket XFLR6, and one sunny day they took off on their first journey to space - to the moon! Or did they?

Recorded aboard the XFLR6, the atmosphere was somewhat edgy, tense...: "John, are you sure you've got the complete construction plans for the XFLR6? This thing feels kind of clumsy, as if a child had drawn the plans." "Oh, oh, good old Jim, always the charmer, aren't you? If you think that you can do better than me, just do it yourself!!!" "Please, John, calm down. You are so squeamish ever since you've quit smoking", Jim said. "It's just... this thing feels so half-baked... Maybe we should have delayed the launch." At this moment James joined the conversation: "Seems we are getting slower. Maybe we are running low on fuel, I'll just check... Yep. John, please light up some matches!" "Matches? What are you talking about?!? Do you guys ever listen to me? I've quit smoking! I didn't bring any matches!! I don't want to risk a relapse. Sheesh!!!" "Err, John???" Jim felt a certain panic rise inside himself... "You DO know that this is a match-fuelled rocket? We were talking about this just before take-off?" "Don't be pathetic, Jim", John barked. "We are almost there, and of course I've packed some floaties." "Floati...!!!! No! This isn't real. This is a nightmare, got to wake up, got to wake up, got to get out of here...!!!" ... "Jim, Jim, hey, honey, wake up!" Jim heard Lucy's (Jim's wife; editor's note) voice from afar... then he felt a pinch on his arm - and woke up, and looked into Lucy's big brown eyes. "Oh honey, how often did I tell you you shouldn't read your old Tintin books at night. They'll just give you nightmares. Will you ever grow up. John just called, he said the Dimension Skipper® is ready for launch. Oh, and he specifically asked me to remind you to bring some matches. Weird. I thought he'd just quit smoking... Oh well, there goes another New Year's resolution. No grit, he didn't even keep it up 'til February..."

Size of the scene: 7 cm / 2,7 inches, arranged upside down, then rotated the image to the left. Match attached to the back of the rocket with adhesive tape. Thin strip of black cardboard attached to the rocket with adhesive tape as well, attached to a sheet of black glitter foam sheet with a clamp; I then retouched the black cardboard strip with the Healing Brush. Had a glass of water within reach, just in case the paper rocket would catch fire, but to my astonishment the match went out by itself everytime, and the rocket is still intact ;-)

By the way, this is my 500th photo on Flickr ;-)

A Happy Macro Monday Everyone ;-)

Penguin? Aka "How I learned about the star signs": Obviously my zodiac sign is not "Penguin", but when I was in class one of primary / elementary school, at one point star signs were the next big thing. It was spring, and one classmate, whose sign was Aries, and whose birthday was close, brought up the subject, and all of a sudden everyone wanted to know each others "star sign" - and I did not even know what a "star sign" was. Now you should know that in German we do not use the Latin terms, but have all of the terms translated (Aries is "Widder", which, literally, is "ram"), and many of my classmates had "animal" star signs, so, on that day, I was wondering, whether a "star sign" was a favourite animal I could choose for myself. Next thing I was wondering about was why most of my classmates had chosen such weird animals as their personal signs. Yes, OK, one girl was a Leo, and "Löwe" (lion) was a great animal to choose. But ram, bull, ibex / goat??? Why not cat, dog, budgie or penguin? That summer, when I turned 7, my parents gave me the silver pendant that you can see in my capture, with my birthday and -year engraved on the flipside. They also gave me a bracelet with my first name on it, in case I should forget it one day ;-).

Size: 7x5 cm (2,7x1,9 inches). The lobster I found in the spare "1 Euro each" parts box at the toy store, I used bird sand for the "beach", and as background I used a postcard with my real star sign on it - which is... crab ;-) .

And if you are interested, here's a list of the German names of the star signs: Aries = Widder (ram), Taurus = Stier (bull), Gemini = Zwillinge (twins), Cancer = Krebs (crab), Leo = Löwe (lion), Virgo = Jungfrau (literally "young woman"), Libra = Waage (scales), Scorpio = Skorpion, Sagittarius = Schütze (shooter), Capricorn = Steinbock (ibex / goat), Aquarius = Wassermann (merman, literally "water man"), Pisces = Fische (fish).

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!

Thank you for your comments and faves, they are always highly appreciated!
