2023 marks my tenth year on Flickr. If I remember correctly, I've joined in April 2013, but it wasn't before two or three years later that I began to understand that Flickr is not just a website to present your photos, but a social network as well. To celebrate this, the New Year that is still like a notebook filled with empty sheets, and also the fact that Flickr is still going strong (and hopefully will continue to go strong for many years to come) after so many ups and downs in the past few years, I thought I'd post another re-edit of a photo taken in... 2013 :) It's another photo from my trip to the Baltic Sea semi-island Usedom. To me, this particular capture represents the "unknown" that 2023 still is. One has a vague idea of what might come, but one can't see all of it, yet. It might look promising from the point of view we have now, 1st January 2023, but we still don't know exactly what waits around the corner or, like here, at the end of that beach promenade.

Ins Blaue hinein

Ein Start ins neue Jahr auf dem Holzweg? Kann das gut gehen? Am Ostseestrand mit Sicherheit, sogar wortwörtlich :) 2013 bin ich Flickr beigetreten, im April. Bis dahin dauert es zwar noch ein bisschen, aber ich dachte, ich starte das neue Flickr-Jahr mal mit einem Foto aus meinem Beitrittsjahr, das für mich vom Motiv her auch ein wenig den Jahresbeginn symbolisiert. Ein neues Jahr ist ja fast wie ein Notizbuch mit überwiegend noch leeren Seiten, nur auf einigen befinden sich vielleicht schon ein paar Skizzen oder die Andeutung eines Weges, den das neue Jahr vielleicht nehmen wird. So wie hier: Man weiß natürlich in etwa, wo es hingehen könnte, aber was genau am Ende des Weges wartet, kann man noch nicht sehen.

Dies ist eine weitere Neubearbeitung eines Fotos von einem Usedom-Kurzurlaub im Mai 2013. Wie immer findet Ihr das Originalbild im ersten Kommentar. Ich wünsche Euch allen ein schönes, gesundes und erfolgreiches 2023 mit hoffentlich auch vielen schönen Fotomotiven :)

This is somewhat anti-cyclic because it's a photo taken in spring, whereas autumn is in full swing – but spring is so, too, in the southern hemisphere, so let's say it's an autumn image as seen from somewhere down under ;)

This is also another re-edit from a holiday on Baltic sea semi-island Usedom in 2013. I've already re-edited a few images taken during that holiday (please check my album), and I've always wanted to re-process this one because it's one of my favourites from that trip. The woods along the Usedom high coast are incredibly beautiful, and to wander through them felt like being in an enchanted forest. It was a truly magical experience.

Photographed with the tiny Pen-E-PL3, my very first MFT camera (which still exists). Needless to say, the 12,8 MP sensor isn't capable of capturing the absolute best details, and especially on the horizon there is a considerable loss of detail, but not to the extent that you couldn't at least guess what you see, namely a sailboat and one of the many ferries crossing the Baltic sea every day to different destinations such as Poland, Scandinavia, and the Baltic countries.

Please don't ask me about the (over-)processing steps in this re-editing journey, because a journey it was, and a rather long one, as I've been returning to this image on and off, doing this and that in different programmes until it finally felt "right" – at least for this moment ;) You can find the original, almost SOOC image in the second comment.

This is the 800th photo I show on Flickr. 2021 also marks my 8th year on Flickr (I became a member in 2013), and, as most of you know, I've also re-discovered photos I've taken during a trip to Usedom (Baltic Sea) back in 2013. A nice coincidence, isn't it? So I decided to choose a photo from that trip as my 800th upload. I've learned a lot about photography during these past eight Flickr years. Back then, for instance, whenever there were clouds on a day I wanted to go out to take photos, I used to think "Stupid clouds, I want a blue sky." Nowadays, whenever I go out to take photos, and the sky is blue, blue, and only blue, I think "Nice, but I wish there were at least a few clouds." ;) So I had not been happy about the clouds on the day I took this photo, but I'm happy about them in retrospect, because they add such a nice drama to the image. Isn't it a good thing that we never stop learning?

Like my previous upload, this is another re-edit of a photo I've already uploaded to Flickr years ago. It's also a slider, because it's Sunday :) Processed in DXO PhotoLab 4, Lightroom, Color Efex, and Luminar AI – and the main difference to the original photo (please check out the first comment), apart from a bolder, more colourful processing, is the swallow. Which I've borrowed from another photo taken on that day at this same jetty at the Kölpinsee, a small lake 200 metres behind the Baltic Sea shoreline. This photo had the better, more harmonious point of view, the other photo, taken from a lower angle of view (so you couldn't really sea much of the lake) had the swallow, so why not combine both :)

Dies ist mein 800. Foto, das ich auf Flickr zeige :) Zufälligerweise ist es auch mein 8. Jahr hier bei Flickr, 2013 bin ich beigetreten, und da ich, wie Ihr ja wisst, kürzlich beim Durchstöbern meines Archivs den Ordner mit Usedom-Fotos vom Mai 2013 (wieder)gefunden habe, dachte ich, dass für "Nr. 800" ein Bild aus meinem Flickr-Beitrittsjahr gut passen würde ;) In diesen acht Jahren habe ich viel über Fotografie gelernt. Z.B. war ich hier damals gar nicht glücklich über die vielen Wolken gewesen, ein "schöner" Fotohimmel hatte doch bitte blau zu sein. Das sehe ich heute natürlich ganz anders – und so bin ich im Rückblick sogar sehr froh über diesen dramatischen Wolkenhimmel. Wie gut, dass wir nie aufhören zu lernen :)

Wie schon mein vorheriger Upload ist auch dies eine Neubearbeitung eines Fotos, dass ich schon vor Jahren hier hochgeladen hatte (Ihr findet es wieder im ersten Kommentar). Der Hauptunterschied zum Original, abgesehen von der kräftigeren, farbenfrohen Neugestaltung, ist natürlich die Schwalbe, die ich mir von einem anderen Foto, das ich an jenem Tag an diesem Bootssteg am Kölpinsee (200 Meter hinter der Ostseeküste gelegen) aufgenommen hatte, geliehen habe. Dieses Foto hat den harmonischeren Blickwinkel, das andere Foto, am Anfang des Stegs und aus einer viel tieferen Position aus aufgenommen, sodass man nur wenig vom so schön glitzernden See sehen konnte, hatte die Schwalbe. Warum also nicht beide kombinieren, es ist ja schließlich (Sliders) Sonntag: Aus zwei mach eins :)
