The Vosges are beautiful but its raining a lot there. After a hole day of terribly raining cats and dogs it finally stopped and the camera came out of the tankbag. We were soaked, luckily the camera had survived.

The greener the landscape, the more suspicious I am :-)

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France. Photo: entrance of the canyon

The Gorge du Verdon or Grand canyon du Verdon in south-eastern France is a river canyon that is often considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful. It is about 25 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named after its startling turquoise-green colour, one of the canyon's most distinguishing characteristics. The most impressive part lies between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, where the river has cut a ravine up to 700 metres down through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon river flows into the artificial lake of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (in French: Lac de Sainte-Croix).

Col de la Bonette (2802m), Parc National du Mercantour.

At 2715M the col de la Bonette is not the highest mountain pass in Europe. But the two kilometre long teardrop shaped loop around the Cime de la Bonette from either side of the pass reaches 2802 m. and is therefore the highest paved road in the Alps .
