Every year between October and December, a wildlife spectacle takes place along a low-lying point of the Lincolnshire coast of England, called Donna Nook. In the sanctuary of a salt marsh area, used by the RAF for bombing practice throughout most of the year, hundred of female grey seals haul themselves up on the sun dunes and give birth to their pups. Year on year, their numbers increase.

Already, some 600 pups have already been born this year, with twice as many expected to follow, and all in the glare of the public, albeit fenced a short distance away. Until the pups have been weaned they remain on the dunes with their mothers, whom they constantly suckle. Within sight of both mothers and pups, a substantial grey seal bulls can also seen, patrolling the nurseries.

Photographically, it is a wildlife photographer's paradise, as many shots are easily to be had, most of which are literally a matter of yards away.
