This is from one of my collections of frog photos, taken in my garden pond. If you zoom in and look carefully into the frog's eye, you should be able to work out why the pond appears to have a reddish coloration. Over the last couple of years I've not been able to get so many shots of them. Just a question of luck I suppose, as spawning time tends to have a very narrow window: if you blink, you'll miss it!
Many thanks for your comments, and wherever you are or whatever you do, have a nice day!

These little creatures, Pine Martens (martes martes), are native to and widespread throughout northern Europe, where they inhabit well-wooded areas. At night and dusk when they are most active, they use their keen sense of sight, smell and hearing to prey on small mammals, birds and insects. They also feed on carrion and fruit.
Through human predation and loss of habitat they have declined considerably, but on the List of Threatened Species are of 'least concern'.
Wishing you a happy and safe week-end.

The sight of this little butterfly fluttering around is a sure sign that the warm sunnier days of spring have finally arrived. They are widespread throughout the temperate regions of Europe and Asia.
It is only the male which has the conspicuous orange tip on its forewings. It is usually seen along the margins of fields and woods, seeking out the more reclusive female. They prefer damp grassland, where cuckooflower and garlic mustard are typically found, on which eggs are singly laid.
Many thanks for your welcome comments.

The brown hare is native to Europe and parts of Asia, and feeds mainly on grasses in open country.
They are mainly active at night, which is why this one was stretching his hind legs at the end of day, after lounging around, seemingly unaware I was watching from a close distance.
With such long powerful legs they are able to run at great speed, out of harm's way of predators, which include birds of prey, wild cats and dogs.
Many thanks for your comments. Have a great week!

This was taken a couple of winters ago during a visit to my homeland of Wales.
They are extremely handsome, particularly when seen against the white snow showing up their colour. they are also very acrobatic in flight, which is a joy to watch.
During medival times red kites were a familar sight and were known to scavenge on the edge of towns.
In more recent times they were reduced to a mere handful of pairs in the UK, but through a programme of introduction have greatly increased.
Those in the heart of Wales, where this one was photographed, have been shown to be direct descendants of the original birds.
