I made this sheet metal sculpture for my sister-in-law Lotus, (a birthday gift). It's designed to hang outside from a tree. It's made from aluminum roof flashing that is black one side and white on the other. I lengthened the handles of a pair of strong scissors, (to give more leverage). Then, I drew lines on the white side with a fine black sharpie pen. After cutting 4 tapered pieces, (each about 5 feet log), I rolled them on a piece of one inch dowel to make the spiral shapes. Every second spiral turns the other way to give a mirror like effect. the smaller spirals that hold it all together are each about 6 inches long and about one eighth of an inch wide. I rolled these on a thin bamboo stake. I wore disposable gloves to avoid getting tiny aluminum dust pieces stuck in the pores of my skin. I also was careful to put any tiny sharp pieces in the garbage, (after rounding a few corners).
