Icarus Container by Japanese artist Yukinori Yanagi.

This installation takes the form of a labyrinth of repurposed shipping containers. It is a dark walk-through maze that confuses the senses. You have to be careful not to walk into a series of angled mirrors.

Yanagi drew his inspiration from the tale of Icarus, an ancient Greek mythology about Icarus not heeding advice from his father not to fly too close to the sun and consequently his wings were destroyed and fell into the sea. Yanagi interprets the myth as an analogous warning of the consequences of human obsession with technology.

If you can't comprehend his association between the two, you're not alone.

Law of the Journey by Chinese contemporary artist Ai WeiWei is a monumental black rubber boat packed with 258 refugee figures. The boat is mounted on a timber base inscribed with quotes on the importance of a humane refugee policy.

There’s no refugee crisis, but only human crisis. In dealing with refugees we’ve lost our very basic values, said Ai Weiwei in response to the current humanitarian disaster in dealing with forced displacement.

The number of artists participating this year continued to drop even after the principal sponsor Transfield Holding had pulled out. The latter was controversially linked to our notorious offshore detention centres.
