Start of Russia's Golden Ring series that covers Vladimir, Suzdal, Rostov Velikiy, Sergiev Posad.
Arrived at Vladimir on my birthday and it rained.

This red brick Trinity Church, built in 1913-1916 by the Old Russian Orthodox community, is now a museum. You wouldn't believe the inside is a contemporary design.

Also known as Cathedral of the Assumption.
The five-domed white cathedral was originally built in the 12th Century. For centuries this was the biggest cathedral in Russia and it is known to have been the inspiration for the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow’s Kremlin. The lofty bell-tower in Neoclassical style was added in 1810.
Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside the cathedral.

Cathedral inside Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin. It was rebuilt of white stone in Baroque style in 1866, as part of the out-of-town residence of Andrei Bogolyubsky, Prince of Vladimir. The inside is covered floor to ceiling with paintings of saints but unfortunately no photography was allowed.

Suzdal is about 40km north of Vladimir.
This museum was created around two astounding wooden (winter and summer) churches that were brought here from various villages of Suzdal District. They have been preserved from the 18th century and have not been destroyed by fire or dismantled for firewood during hard times. The churches were constructed of pine, without using iron nails.

The Church of Transfiguration was built in 1756 and moved here in 1966 from the village of Kozlyateva in the Kolchuginsk district. It is a three-tier village church with a central structure composed of three octagons crowned by a spectacular onion dome. The domes are covered with aspen shakes that give the illusion of a silvery colour. Unfortunately, the inside of the church was not open to the public.
