I was walking on a trail when I heard this commotion in a nearby birch trees. So I walked off the trail in long weeds to finally find this wonderful family of Belted Kingfisher. It was very hard to determine the number of young ones but my guess was 2 for sure. At one point I heard one behind me and here it was, behind tons of reeds by the shore, I could only see some white. I walked away to try to find a clear spot in between reeds and when I bent down, I did not think it was that close, I had to bend down and tried to find a clear window in between the reeds to get a shot and keep my balance with a foot in the water. Glad I had my rain boots.
