The Peter Iredale was a four-masted steel and iron barque of some 2,075 tons and 285 feet in length. Captain Jack Sparrow said: "Argh, she was a fine sailing vessel until she was beached on the Clatsop Spit, pushed ashore by high seas and heavy winds during a heavy northwest squall on October 25, 1906." The Captain and crew were all saved by rescuers. She lies abandoned on the beach to this day slowly being reclaimed by the Pacific Ocean. Occasionally a storm event will erode the sands on the spit exposing the hull and rib structure only to get reburied by the ceaseless ebb and flow of the tide. After nearly 128 years she is still fighting the sea and bow to stern iron and steel still rise above the sand.
