The GW Parkway eagles have returned to Arlington to refurbish the nest for breeding later this winter. This is the female, nicknamed "Abigail" by some of the nearby residents. Unlike her mate, she has a single dark tail feather.

The GW Parkway eagles have returned to Arlington to refurbish the nest for breeding later this winter. This is the male, nicknamed "John" by some of the nearby residents.

Last year, their first at the nest, the couple produced two healthy offspring. Hopefully they'll have even more success this year!

A pair of bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), back home from migration, hang out near their nest on the GW Parkway in Arlington. The female is on the right.

A bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) takes off from a branch near his nest in Arlington.

I guess this means my trips to Conowingo have ended for the season.

A bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) stands watch near a gigantic nest in the median of the GW Parkway in Arlington. Yes, they built a nest in the middle of a really busy highway in an urban area!
