Female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) nectaring.
Skunk's Misery, near Newbury, Ontario, Canada.
June 5, 2012

I was standing in front of this flowering shrub (Silver Leaf Dogwood?), looking for something interesting to photograph, when this gorgeous female Tiger flew up and landed right in front of me. I didn't have to move--just point and shoot. Then she was gone as quickly as she had appeared. It's so nice to be able to capture fleeting moments like this and share them with you.

Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes) larva in situ, as found on Prickly-ash (Zanthoxylum americanum).
Skunk's Misery, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada.
June 5, 2012.

Very convincing bird poop mimic! I'm confident this wouldn't even register to a hungry bird.

Bird-dropping moth (Antaeotricha sp ) in situ.
Skunk's Misery, near Newbury, Ontario, Canada.
June 5, 2012

Very convincing!

I was looking for Giant Swallowtail caterpillars, which mimic bird poo, and I noticed this Bird-dropping moth hiding in plain sight.

Turned out--I found more insects mimicking bird poop than I found actual bird poop! :-)
