As part of my committent to the success of the Taunton Peregrine Project in 2020, I opted to spend many hours watching these birds especially during the vital fledgling period.

On 12th June, "MJ" was observed on the Church roof so she had left the safety of the tower. Fortunately, due to the Covid restrictions the town was more or less empty so a large crowd didn't gather and potentially stress her.

I returned on the 13th June and initially there was no sign of her. Eventually, I located her above the main door about 12 ft from the ground and hanging on to the stonework. Not ideal but best left alone. I returned about 30 mins later to find her on the ground.

Thinking that a recovery operation would be required I considered options when she looked at me and ran passed before stopping on the Church path. Into a slight breeze she ran down the path and managed a short gliding flight onto the roof of a nearby single story building. Although being mobbed by Herring Gulls and Crows this was a safe place to be. It would take her another 3 days to have the strength to fly back up to the top of the tower. She is now a competent flyer in the skies over Taunton.
