It's been a weird winter for me and I haven't gotten out as much as I'd like with my camera. My wife and I changed that by venturing out onto frozen Lake Monona on Saturday evening in hopes of catching a nice sunset. Let's just say I'm glad we took that walk.

Had another go at warp-speed shopping on Sunday and I can definitely say there is no better way to shop.

Friday night was unusually calm here in Madison and it made our lakes that surround the city look like sheets of glass. There was also a good amount of fog and haze that really brought out a lot of color from the city lights. Here's a shot from across Lake Monona looking towards out state capitol and the Monona Terrace, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself.

I haven't tried to image the Orion Nebula in over 4 years and I finally made it out last Friday night to see what I still knew. The conditions were perfect and I was going for an hour's worth of data but I lost 40 mins of exposures due to being ever so slightly out of focus. I ended up with 20 mins of salvageable data and I was surprised at how much detail was present for being just on the outskirts of Madison, Wisconsin. I'm hoping to catch some more light later this year and early next year.

Madison, Wisconsin got it's first snowfall of the year and for once it happened before Halloween. It was also more than a dusting, my car had at least a couple inches on it when I left for work this morning. It looked quite nice layered on top of the colors of changing trees.
