Every morning I saw flocks of these cool little birds. It was tricky getting close to them because they seem to all flee simultaneously when one would take off. They reminded me of the bushtits here in California. I got some close ups in this soft light and golden light in the end. :) Click image for slightly better clarity.

Upon my arrival at Hosmer Grove, I discovered my very first Northern Cardinal at the entrance to the trail. He flew into the tree and stayed up higher than I had wanted. I waited patiently and he came down eye level and rested inside this opening. He gave me great close up full frame shots!! That was it after that chance as he kept himself higher in the surrounding trees. A treat for those of us who have never seen one. They are stunning!

Traveled to some unchartered territories this morning looking for some owls. Almost turned around as I was a good hour North. Found this obliging one. I should have done video is the only regret I had. Got some decent close frames today. :)
