Last year when I headed up to the Sierras I dipped on this pair of nesting Hairy Woodpeckers. I got up early that morning and watched them bring in all sorts of grubs and moths to the nestlings inside the tree to the left. Both parents landed on this dead piece of tree often times before flying to the nest to the left to feed. This spot offered clean looks. Took a ton that morning as action was very busy. Unfortunately, the babies weren't quite big enough to poke their heads out at the time. Click image for better clarity :)
