Wood spiders, also called Golden Orb Web spiders, are some of the largest in the world, sizes ranging from 2 cm to 4 cm. Called O-jyorou gumo in Japan (gumo meaning spider, O meaning big and jyorou meaning femme fatale), they are considered lucky if seen in the daytime, unlucky at night. Somewhat poisonous, their bite is painful because of the size of the fangs. Way too icky for comfort, especially the size of the webs.
