Taken New Forest National Park, Hampshire. A male sand lizard in full breeding colours caught as it hunted insects. Nearby was a female, both then joined up on a sandy slope where the female started to prepare area for laying eggs.

The smooth snake is Britain's rarest reptile, found only on heathlands in Dorset and Hampshire and on one or two heaths in Surrey and West Sussex.
