I was fortunate to be able to join some friends for a winter getaway on the Isle of Skye. We had arrived the evening before in the dark, so this was our first location of our first day on Skye. A view from the shore of Loch Cill Chriosd looking across to Blà Bheinn in the distance.

In addition to spending the Skye holiday with MuddyBoots., Mark, Geoff, Andy and Pete I finally got the opportunity to meet up with SkyeWeasel, who joined our merry band of togs and shared some local insights.

I was fortunate to be able to join some friends for a winter getaway on the Isle of Skye. The last evening the skies cleared so it was a quick trip for a night shot from the shore of Loch Cill Chriosd looking across to Blà Bheinn in the distance.

In addition to spending the Skye holiday with MuddyBoots., Mark, Geoff, Andy and Pete I finally got the opportunity to meet up with SkyeWeasel.

A description that is appropriate for the image and, if I'm not careful, myself. A fabulous afternoon and evening exploring the photo opportunities along the coastline of Skye at Elgol. Maneuvering across the wet and occasionally mossy rocks to this location required balance, lightening reflexes and grace. The last time I had lightening reflexes was years ago and grace has never been a term used by others to describe how I move, the only possible reason I didn't end up on my backside is luck.

Besides dealing with the rocks underfoot, there was also the advancing tide to deal with. After setting up and taking a few images I soon discovered the waves washing over my boots . . . . time to grab the kit and retreat and reposition . . . shoot and repeat. All in all a memorable time at Elgol . . . I got the images I wanted, I stayed upright and the only things that ended up in the water were my boots.

In the distance are the snow capped Cuillins. The lone figure enjoying the view provides a sense of scale to the scene.

I was fortunate to have been able to join some friends for a winter getaway on the Isle of Skye. This was the last location we visited . . . what a way to end the holiday!

A fantastic evening at Elgol where conditions were constantly changing as Storm Dennis barreled across the Isle of Skye. We were treated to ever changing conditions, including a rising tide, gale force winds, driving rain, hail pellets, snow, grey skies, broken clouds, flat light which was often quickly followed with moments of gorgeous golden hour light.

There were 7 of us dashing about capturing as many images as we could, in conditions we had only dreamed of before. A majority of us ended up at the JCB (Joe Cornish Boulder) to capture the incoming tide as the sun set. In the distance can be seen the snow capped Cuillins.

It was a challenge, as the waves broke on the rocks, to keep the sea spray off the front of the lens. As I was walking back to the car in darkness I thought to myself how fortunate I was!

I flew into Manchester from Minnesota to meet up with friends for a winter holiday on Skye. We ( MuddyBoots, Pete Rowbottom, Andy Rouse, MarkWaidson, Geoff Moore ) met up in the evening and headed to Skye in a 2 vehicle caravan. It was about 2:30AM when we turned off the main road and into a narrow layby somewhere between Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe in order to get a few hours rest before sunrise.

As I had already been up for over 36 hours, I was confident that sleeping in the car would not be an issue. With the outside temperature well below freezing, I utilized my coat as a blanket and drifted off to sleep. Unfortunately, I was awakened moments later when our designated driver (unnamed to protect the guilty) transformed into a raging chainsaw. It was a rather fitful sleep, but needed sleep it was.

As the night began to brighten into day I could see Stob Dearg begin to appear with the morning light. We all stumbled out of the vehicles, greeted each other, grabbed our camera kits and scattered like proper togs looking for the best location and foreground.

After photographing several locations around Glen Etive we, the STS, were back on the road heading to Skye.
