. . . at Delicate Arch. We arrived at the entrance to Arches National Park just prior to our timed entry permit of 6AM. But by the time we reached the ranger station it was after 6am so we were able to proceed into the park. At the base of Delicate Arch we parked, gathered our kit and were off on the path up the slick rock to Delicate Arch. The hike is about 1.5 miles with a 550 elevation gain. The last 200 yards is an exposed flat path that has been cut into the side of the rock face.
Fortunately, Delicate Arch is not illuminated by the first light as the sun breaks the horizon. The sun needs to rise a bit for the light to get over some of the higher rock out croppings to reach Delicate Arch.
There are two hikers in the image to add a sense of scale . . . one stands out, but the other is tougher to find.
As the golden light began to illuminate Delicate Arch we were 'serenaded' by an individual with a large red plastic horn that he bleated continuously. One of the onlookers even voiced an opinion on where that large plastic horn should be placed . . . anatomically not possible!!
