After walking Lingmoor Fell and Side Pike it was time to pause . . . just for the view . . .

From left to right can be seen Bow Fell, Kettle Crag and Langdale Fell including the Langdale Pikes. On the far right is the lower slope of Side Pike, while Stool End at the base of The Band can be seen on the valley floor. For a sense of scale, toward the bottom and just right of center, is a silver car on the road heading down to Wall End.

This was my first holiday in the Lake District, but with views such as this, it won’t be my last. This view is a composite of 3 images, providing a glimpse of the grandeur of the Lake District.

After beginning the ascent of Lingmoor Fell from near Blea Tarn House, I was already halting to capture the view being revealed as we quickly gained elevation. The weather that day was mostly cloudy with scattered showers and only hints of light. In the distance on the left, partially obscured by clouds, are the Tilberthwaite Fells. Blea Tarn, with a few cloud reflections on the water, is in the center and immediately behind is Horse Crags and Wrynose Fell. Going right on the horizon is Crinkle Crags and with a hint of light on its summit, Bow Fell. On the far right is the lower slope of Side Pike with the Langdale Fells behind.

This panorama is a stitch of 4 images. For a sense of scale, there is a silver car on the road just to the right of the large tree that is right of center at the bottom.

After a day in the Lake District walking from Bridgend to Hartsop via Angle Tarn and Hayeswater, we were relieved to see a bench alongside the path on the final leg of the walk from Hartsop back to Bridgend. Our intention was to rest for a few minutes then continue walking. This image was our view from the bench, which caused our break to last much longer than initially intended. With this view, we were not in a rush to finish our walk . . . there’s nowhere we have to be . . . we’re on holiday!!

Hartsop is visible on the left just beyond the dry stone wall. The hills, from left to right are Hartsop Dodd, Middle Dodd, High Hartsop Dodd and Hart Crag. In the center is Brother’s Water. The white building beyond Brother’s Water is Hartsop Hall. The skies were cloudy but a hint of light did manage to brighten a few fields immediately in front of Brother’s Water.

Three images were stitched for this panoramic view.

My first walk in the Lake District was Castle Crag. The initial portion of the walk from Rosthwaite to Castle Crag is along the valley floor. Once the path heads uphill it quickly becomes steep, especially the section climbing the quarry spoil heap. After reaching the top of the spoil heap I needed to catch my breath, I had this view of Upper Borrowdale and Rosthwaite before continuing on to the summit of Castle Crag. I lingered much longer than necessary with this view to enjoy. In the lower right is part of the spoil heap, while Ullscarf, Eagle Crag, High Raise and Rosthwaite Fell form the skyline.

Four images were stitched for this panorama.

For those walkers who are map and/or compass challenged, the route over Lingmoor Fell descending toward Side Pike is quite easy . . . just follow the dry stone wall. In this image, the stone wall I have been following leads to Side Pike, while in the distance on the right is Langdale Fell including Langdale Pikes.

Moments like this, made the other moments with rain showers and sleet pellets seem worth enduring. The dappling light combined with the dark clouds slowed our walk as I was making frequent camera stops.
