We decided to take our time driving to Skye and spend a day in Glencoe to recover from the jet lag and to also climb the Pap of Glencoe (Sgorr na Ciche). The elevation of the Pap of Glencoe is 742m so it is a short walk/climb but once at the summit the views are spectacular. This is the view to the west over Loch Leven toward Loch Linnhe. In the bottom left is the A82 as it follows the southern shore of Loch Leven.

I flew into Manchester from Minnesota to meet up with friends for a winter holiday on Skye. We ( MuddyBoots, Pete Rowbottom, Andy Rouse, MarkWaidson, Geoff Moore ) met up in the evening and headed to Skye in a 2 vehicle caravan. It was about 2:30AM when we turned off the main road and into a narrow layby somewhere between Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe in order to get a few hours rest before sunrise.

As I had already been up for over 36 hours, I was confident that sleeping in the car would not be an issue. With the outside temperature well below freezing, I utilized my coat as a blanket and drifted off to sleep. Unfortunately, I was awakened moments later when our designated driver (unnamed to protect the guilty) transformed into a raging chainsaw. It was a rather fitful sleep, but needed sleep it was.

As the night began to brighten into day I could see Stob Dearg begin to appear with the morning light. We all stumbled out of the vehicles, greeted each other, grabbed our camera kits and scattered like proper togs looking for the best location and foreground.

After photographing several locations around Glen Etive we, the STS, were back on the road heading to Skye.
