The Bell Tower of Amalfi Cathedral was completed around the end of the XIII century. Having built in the Romanesque style with four small towers around a large one, it is decorated with brightly colored majolica tiles forming interlaced Gothic arches in an Arab-Norman style. This is the most ornate example of the type of medieval bell tower found only in southern Italy. The tower is best seen from the narrow pass to the Old Cemetery in Amalfi, Italy.
In the background, there can be seen small plantations of lemon trees prepared for the night. Farmers have to climb every day to the top of special frames that hold tree branches with fruits on top so that they can get the sun. At night, the trees are covered with a special mesh fabric that protects them from the cold air that flows from the slopes to the bottom of the gorge, and in the morning the fabric is rolled into huge rolls on the tops of the frames.
This work requires skill and strength. Families of farmers who have been doing this for more than a century are called "flying farmers". Recently, the plantations have been decreasing, and fewer people are familiar with this craft. The famous limoncello liqueur and many other products are produced from lemons.
