Shot back in January this year, the iconic Kirkjufell on the Snaefellsness Peninsula in Iceland.

We had decided to go out as the Aurora forecast was looking reasonble, the first place we went to it's wasn't really visible so we thought we would try this spot to see if we got any luck...

This was taken around Midnight, with the Northern Lights dancing away over the conical shaped mountain, the mostly clear night allowed for the Milky Way to put in an appearance too.

In true Pete fashion, I was wondering why I couldn't get focus on the stars this night, tried everything!! The others were all managing it, but not me, I've never had an issue before so I wondered what the problem was with my lens......it was a while before I realised somehow the right hand lens of my glasses had somehow popped out the frame and dissapeared ! so no wonder i couldn't see as I use my right eye to focus!

Took 5 of us quite some time but (amazingly) we did eventually manage to find it, under my ice spikes about a foot deep in snow! it was scratched but useable and once popped back into my glasses frame I was able to focus and shoot again.

Incase you were wondering how hard it was to locate a see through piece of optical glass dropped into thick snow, in pitch black and below freezing conditions, lets just say that I wouldn't want to be doing it again anytime soon.
