Recently there was a particularly huge high tide along the Dee Marshes coastline. This left a massive amount of flotsam and debris in it’s wake, along with many rodents that had managed to survive the “tsunami” having been washed out of their homes. A few days later when waters had receded and everything had dried out, I watched this kestrel hunting over the mass of grass and sticks. It knew that there was homeless survivors in there that might make a break for it !
Luckily I was able to capture a sequence of images of the kestrel’s successful strike. This shot shows the moment it grabs a wood mouse, but the kestrel has hold of a strand of vegetation as well. It has to work out how to free it’s talons - without losing it’s prey.
I think I will compile a set of images in an album which will show the outcome.
