Around our holiday cottage that we stayed in over the bank holiday the owners have done their best to conserve the local wildlife and promote visitors to actively seek it out! They have kept a large field as wild as possible and placed around 20 large corrugated iron tins down to encourage both Common Lizard and Grass Snake.
During the late summer the local Grass Snake population gravitate towards these tins and most mornings I had a stroll around lifting each one, in total I saw 7 individual Grass Snakes which was excellent. Most were shedding their skins and those ones were always underneath the tins (maybe for safety reasons as their eyesight during this stage is reduced), a few were on top of the tins, still cool but soaking up the early morning sunshine and with a careful approach I managed to get a few shots before they moved off.
