This artwork, of the seaman with the outstretched arms connecting Britain with the Continent, was used by the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland and partners for many years. It appears in various languages and sometimes with variations as to the ports served. Here it is for the "main" Hoek van Holland/Hook of Holland - Vlisslingen/Flushing to Harwich day and night services and shows the numerous onward rail connections that were then possible. It also promotes "cheap returns" to London and other stations in England and Scotland.

The advert appears to have been a page on a pad that has been carefully removed and the blank section possibly was for notes or written information as poster versions of this artwork usually have timetable information here.

For many years the Travel Press & Publicity Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group and with its origins in the old SMT Group, issued "ABC Timetable" booklets for major Scottish towns and cities. These compendium pocket volumes covered all services provided by SBG services and that otherwise would have to be found in the various subsidiary company timetable booklets. Here in Glasgow these were W. Alexander (Midland), Central SMT, Western SMT, Scottish Omnibuses (Eastern Scottish) and those of David Macbrayne. the ferry and road services operator.

Needless to say the local services of Glasgow Corporation Transport and the various 'independent' operators, such as in the Paisley area, are studiously ignored! However, the volumes give a good idea of the services and frequencies provided and they cover both local stage services and longer distance coach operations. These pages show the various Glasgow - Edinburgh bus services operated by Eastern Scottish alongside routes to Fort William, Elgin, Fort Augustus, Fairhill, Forfar and Falkirk via Cumbernauld (then not long a designated New Town).

The Glasgow Numerical Printing Co. Ltd. were a long established specialist printer of bus and tram tickets - although by 1965 they cannot have been many tram operators left for tickets to be printed for.

This page shows two of the long distance coach services - Glasgow to Birmingham and Coventry and the Glasgow to Bournemouth service. Both were overnight and in pre-motorway days must have been quite the slog! The other timetable is the alternative Alexander's service between Glasgow and Aberdeen, service 16.
