I've seen fence lizards display to each other before, but this is the first time I've seen one displaying to me. This little guy was head bobbing at me. The raised tail was a new one for me as well; never saw that before with eastern fence lizards. The perch of a burned out log is fitting as the Pine Barrens is dependent on fire for its survival; fire creates clearings in the forest canopy and allows new plants to germinate. The Pines ecosystem is well adapted to fire...
