At 151 metres, Stirling Falls is the second biggest waterfall in Milford Sound, New Zealand - three times higher than Niagara Falls.
The cliff wall drops into the water and keeps going another 200 ft, so the catamaran I was on had no problem in getting REAL close.
That did, however, present some challenges for me, standing on the top deck above the bow. Spray. And pitching movement. Approaching slowly gave the chance to get my exposure right, but getting focus was almost impossible with my manual focus lens. Good thing I had the TS-E 24mm f3.5L II on the 1Ds3.
This shot is not as sharp as I would have liked, as in super sharp. But the composition was the best and it was also the closest we got.

The sun was just creeping up on the range next to the road to Mt Aspiring from Wanaka and to the Rob Roy Gacial Track, which we tackled over 5 hours to the top lookout and back. Epic day.
