Mark is one of my best friends. Three weeks ago he was best man at my wedding, then he and his wife took off to Central Australia for a road trip. Today, after they just got back, I took advantage of the fact he hadn't shaved since the wedding to shoot some portrait shots of him.
With no prep time I shot outdoor, in their back yard. The noon sunlight was diffused by a light cloud cover, and to avoid shadow on his face I positioned Mark facing right into the sun. For background, Mark had a black cloth which I pinned to the large umbrella over the outdoor BBQ setting.
I shot about 50 images, of which 40 are keepers. It was a good shoot. This one was about midway through, not long after this conversation:
Me: You look like Ernest Hemingway.
Mark: Before or after he died?
Me: Just before he pulled the trigger.

My friend Mark, shot with an Infrared DSLR (a converted Canon EOS 5D Mark II with an 830nm equivalent Deep B&W filter). In plain and simple English, this means the camera shoots in black and white.
