Scan of a slide taken 10/12/89: Class 50-007 was originally named ‘Hercules’, but was repainted into lined green livery and renamed ‘Sir Edward Elgar for the GWR 150 celebrations in 1985. The Class 50 was part of a display of locomotives at Windsor and Eton Riverside to mark the 150th anniversary of the L&SWR branch from Staines reaching the town on 1st December 1849 . Ironically given the presence of such a GWR themed exhibit, the GWR branch reached Windsor a couple of months before the L&SWR branch.

Scan of a slide taken 10/12/89: Named after a stage actress who had lived in Upper Baker Street, ‘Sarah Siddons’ was one of a class of twenty locos built by Metropolitan Vickers in 1921/2. Withdrawn from regular passenger service in 1961, a spell as a shunter at Ealing Common Depot followed, before the loco was ultimately retained for brake block testing. By 1989 the loco was nominally still in service as a test loco, but was effectively retained in an active preservation role working specials. On this occasion ‘Sarah Siddons’ was working ‘Magna Carta’ shuttles along the Windsor branch with the preserved 4-SUB and 2-BIL units in connection with the 150th anniversary celebrations.
