RHAPSODY IN WHITE

Rhapsody in white
Silence in the lake waters
Rhapsody in white
Rippling in the lake waters
Soft music plays in the air
Tranquil and solitary

By Henrhyde (Gill)

Tanka (Japanese poetry style--Tanka poems are written about nature, seasons, love, sadness and other strong emotions. This form of poetry dates back almost 1200 years ago )

Pair of Coscoroba swans mating , in a lake at Llanelli Wetlands ., South West Wales. The female is under the water .A male swan is a “cob “, a female swan a “pen “ .
Coscoroba Swan (Coscoroba coscoroba )
These are the smallest of the swans, appearing like a goose. The male weighs around 4.6kg and the female 3.8kg. Unlike other swans who have bare skin extending from the bill to the back of the eye, the Coscoroba Swan has feathers. Their smaller size means they can also take off, without having to run to gain enough speed to lift off.
The breeding range is the same as the Black-necked Swan, with the largest concentrations in Argentina and Chile. The name was given to the swan. , by Native American Indians as it’s call sounds like 'cos-cor-ro-oa'. Because of their beauty, swans have inspired art, music, literature and dance.

WINTER SHADOWS

Low sunrays shining
Golden sunset magic time
Long winter shadows

Haiku
By Henrhyde (Gill)
Location

Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, Merthyr Mawr, Nr Bridgend, South Wales
This lovely sand dune nature reserve was once joined to Kenfig National Nature Reserve, and a continuous belt of sand and dune systems ran all the way along the coast from the Ogmore estuary as far west as the Gower Peninsula. There are interruptions to the beaches now , but Wales still has large and relatively unspoilt coastal and sand dune habitats, which are home to many fascinating plants, insects and birds.
The sand dunes here are unusual ,because they have formed against a Carboniferous Limestone Plateau that runs from East to West along the coast, making the dunes at Merthyr Mawr the second highest in Europe. The reserve also contains examples of the successional stages of dune formation, from bare sand, embryonic dunes to (further inland) stabilised dunes and slacks.
The site is managed by the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), and it is designated as a SSSI because of its wealth of plants and insect life. It is also well known as a place where some nationally rare and unusual fungi species grow

THANK YOU ALL FOR WONDERFUL SUPPORT

CLIMBING PENYFAN

Snow carpeted hill
People struggling up rock slopes
Icy paths to tread

Haiku

By Henrhyde (Gill )

Location Penyfan ridge
886 metres (2,907 ft) above sea-level, it is also the highest peak in Britain south of the Snowdonia mountain range ( see previous photo)
The snow and ice on the summit and sides , make this a dangerous venture.
Do not attempt unless you have the proper gear. The mist can cover the mountains so quickly .
Temperatures can kill. The mountain Rescue Team are very busy., with climbing accidents.
I have seen people , attempt to climb wearing trainers and light clothes.!!
