These were clustered at one end of a black painted metal rail at the side of the Cromford Canal with other individuals running around on the length of the rail, all obviously attracted by the warmth (It was a very sunny afternoon). The first time I have knowingly seen this species, the colour pattern can vary considerably as you can see from the two at far end.

Perched about 15' from the window, I spotted it as I was just going to sit down to my mid-day dinner. (Needless to say this was left to get cold but was warmed up later in the microwave!) It was close to an apple tree where there were a few tits moving around but it didn't seem interested in them.
