It has been some 46 years since we started celebrating Earth Day. It was a very different planet than compared to now.
Internet cat videos weren’t around to distract us. Millennials hadn’t yet graced the planet. Simon & Garfunkel had the biggest hit song of the year.
In less than two generations of humans, the populations of vertebrate animals have dropped by 52% between 1970 and 2010.
We often hear about the plight of various endangered species, and the fact of the matter is that experts are starting to think we’re on the verge of a sixth mass extinction in the entire 3.8 billion year history of life on this planet. However, to most people, species are kind of an abstract concept; so is the academic term "biodiversity," which is so frequently used. On this day just take a moment to think about what the next 2 generations will bring, if we stick to what we have been doing so far.
Photographed here are some Sandhill Cranes at first light over the Rio Grande, One of the oldest living animals on earth.

This image was taken in 2014 on a photo safari in the Serengeti. As we began our daily morning drive it was completely dark and there was not much to shoot. Soon the sun began to rise over the horizon and we saw this Bull elephant walking in the distance.

As the sun shines on the Bosque, a crane couple, that decided to spend there night inside the refuge, get ready to take flight for the fields, for the rest of the day. Both sexes are pretty identical and mate for decades and in some cases for life.

We sometimes forget how good we have it with the Baldies at a driving distance. An adult Bald Eagle flies over its hunting grounds as the colder temperature takes its toll on the surrounding foliage. The main places for photographing Eagles in the US (Alaska, Iowa and Washington, to name a a few) are all great for Eagle images. Each area has its unique characteristics for different eagle behavior images but none usually have the fall colors like the northeast.

One of the luxury safari companies in the Serengeti offers a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti plains, Most of the Rich and famous enjoy the, I presume, breathtaking views of the Serengeti Migration from a very unique perspective. It did provide me a nice opportunity as the Balloon descended through the clouds to view Hippos.
