"Hardwick Hall" Doe Lea, Chesterfield, Derbyshire is owned by the "National Trust". The house was build by Elizabeth Countess of Shrewsbury also known as Bess of Hardwick . The house was started in 1590 and completed in 1597. The design is largely that of Elizabeth and her stone mason Robert Smythson architect and surveyor.

Note the design at the top of the towers ES with a coronet over the top. This represents Elizabeth Countess of Shrewsbury

The Great Entrance Hall is the only entrance into Hardwick Hall and was use by both the high and the low. In Beth's time the servants used the two story hall as their main living quarters, eating and sleeping on the stone floor. Guest to the house had to pass through the hall to reach the main staircase to the upper floors.

The collection of Tapestry and Embroideries through the house make up one of the most important collections found anywhere in the world. Many of the Tapestries were made in Flemish and France while the Embroideries were made at "Hardwick House"
