Reindeer and caribou are the same species, but there are at least six sub-species due to the variations in size, build, and geographic location.

A Eurasian oyster catcher sits on a headstone with, appropriately, a couple little birdie figurines on top. The nearby church was the reason for my visit to the site, but the OC soon caught my attention.

A young gentleman playing in the the breaking waves at Ho'okipa Beach Park, Maui, Hawaii. His brother was also participating enthusiastically. Even the mom got into the action, but her foray was less intentional as she was posing for a photo when she got blindsided by a big, breaking wave.

The waves were a good sized due to a few days of sustained high winds, which also enticed lots of sporting types.

Two puffins had a dispute over a burrow. They fought continually for over 9 minutes, and blood was spilled. You can see a bit on the beaks. They really go after the fleshy rosettes at the base of the beak. The fight only ended when they tumbled off the cliff edge. Really big crop.

This male was sitting pretty on a poplar branch. It was early in the season and the day was cold, so the bluebirds were mostly foraging. Pairing up for mating season was well underway though.
