I know that this image will not be appreciated by everyone but this was the first time that I had ever seen an Eastern Fox Snake. I found the rusty red colour striking.
The distribution of this species is limited to southern Ontario, including Long Point and along the eastern coast of Georgian Bay. In the United States the Eastern Fox Snake is found in Michigan and Ohio.
As of 2008 it was listed as Endangered by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC).
This species can reach lengths of 91–137 cm (36-50"). This specimen was approaching the maximum size.
Image was created on May 17, 2007 in Point Pelee National Park, Ontario and cropped to a panoramic format.
