On Dec 20, 2013 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 3 to be a UN World Wildlife Day. The theme for 2018 is “Big cats: predators under threat".

In honour of the theme here's another image from 2015 trip to Namibia.

I created this image (converted to Black and White) of a lioness on the morning of May 26, 2015. She and her pride were at the Okondeka Waterhole in Etosha National Park.

This is an image from my archives that I thought I had previously posted.

It was created in February 2013 after many, many hours of trying to find these two. The Vixen stands beside the Dog Fox after their morning romp together. The male had a bad cut on his left hind leg and was limping badly so he took the time to lay down and recover.

Although I had stayed about 150 meters away and was wrapped in camouflage cloth my camera's shutter was loud enough for them to notice. Fortunately both of them looked in my direction at the same time for 3 frames before the Vixen walked a short distance away and sat down by herself.

Despite the out of focus branches I still love the eye contact.

In the summer of 2014 I uploaded my first recording of Eastern Wolf howls in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario to Youtube. At that time I had one short recording. The adult howling in the distance was not picked up by my camera mic and instead it only captured the pups of the pack.

Their howls were more like the yips of Coyotes and some people commenting on my post claimed that it was indeed coyotes and not wolves. However I have been assured several times by park staff that only Eastern wolves were in the location that I was recording in.

In this latest set of recordings you will be able to clearly hear adult and sub-adult wolves howling and, in one short clip, a couple of yips from the wolf pups.

I hope that you enjoy it as much as I had in recording them.

I was going through some archive images and decided to crop this one into a panoramic format.

This image was created in Etosha National Park on June 3, 2015. This lion and 3 lionesses had been sleeping in the late afternoon sun near the Okondeka waterhole.

We watched them for a long time hoping that they would do something as we had to be back to the Okaukuejo compound before sunset. It was a minimum 20 minute drive and we needed to leave. Of course as soon as we started driving I looked back to see that the male had gotten up and started moving towards the lionesses. We were farther away than we had been but I could not miss this opportunity.

I was glad that we stayed a few more minutes and we did get back in time.

I hope you don't mind another shot of this male leopard from Kalkhuewel Waterhole in Etosha National Park.

Friend and fellow photographer Rudy Pohl went over his general post processing steps with me a little over a week ago. After speaking to him I've been trying to think out side my normal processing routine. Thanks Rudy!

I would be interested in your opinion of this full frame portrait shot. I spent a bit more time experimenting with the processing
