A "First Nation" dancer at the Summer Solstice Aboriginal Arts Festival and Annual Competition Powwow yesterday in Ottawa. The festival and competition runs for the whole weekend at Vincent Massey Park.
Dancers, drummers and singers from across Canada and the United States competed.
The native regalia was incredible and certainly reflected the pride and care taken by their owners in making them. The competition was exciting and colourful as you would expect.
"Aboriginal Peoples" is a collective name for the original peoples of North America and their descendants. The Canada Aboriginal peoples identify themselves as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.
There are currently over 630 recognized First Nations governments or bands spread across Canada.
