Machan Enineering the Scots firm who made Britain’s iconic red postal boxes closed 2015 after losing orders from the Royal Mail. They were the only foundry in the UK to make the traditional cast-iron boxes. The post, pillar and wall boxes that have been used for 160 years are under threat from the cheaper alternative.
