Before the heavy rains from a few days ago the fields close to my house were covered in dandelions, attracting Green-veined Whites, Orange Tips and also quite a few Wood Whites (Leptidea sinapis). These whites are one of the daintiest butterflies in Europe with one of the slowest and delicate flights of all butterflies and extremely pleasant to look at.

I knew they were flying around as I had seen them already. On my way, by bike, to get my COVID-19 vaccination shot, and at my 7yr old son’s football pitch. But I didn’t expect them so close to my house. Yes there is a large field, some 200 meters from my home, with Wood Whites and Green-veined Whites but I had not seen an Orange Tip (Anthocharis cardamines) there before. Until yesterday... #happydays

Red-throated Diver (Gavia stellata)
It’s this time of the year again... time for Red-throated Divers (Gavia stellata). Got up early this yesterday morning and went to one of the national parks nearby, Nuuksio National Park, some 20 minutes drive from where I live.
A bit of fog, a nice sunrise, and two divers mating happily... but they left, likely to search for some food. Bit of a bummer, but luckily a pair of Whooper Swan(Cygnus cygnus) arrived as a welcome bonus and gave me the chance to experiment photographing a white bird backlit. That wasn't too easy... Anyways #happydays
