So this is the mama Canada goose nesting on top of my barn. I spent Earth Day yesterday after going to a doctor's appt on gosling jump watch.

Papa has been hanging around very close by and watching but not bothered by me.

So far I have seen she has 4 goslings but there could be more. I just can't tell for sure yet. Only 3 are visible here.

I know that the goslings are ready to leave the nest within a day or two after hatching so if they hatched when I think they did, (early yesterday) then it shouldn't be long before they make their jump off the barn roof.

I am really hoping to get lucky enough to capture it this time. Last year it happened while I was gone and I was so bummed.

Maybe I'll get lucky this time. Keep fingers crossed for me.

A view across Lake Wakatipu on the south island of New Zealand. It is the second largest lake in New Zealand, after Lake Taupo. The lake has an unusual 5-inch rise and fall in its water level every 25 minutes, which is attributed to a Maori legend about a sleeping giant named Matau.
